This is a moderated blog. Why? Because I have no time nor patience with frauds, poseurs, dilettantes, psychopaths and sociopaths, trolls, and just plain scum who prowl the internet and divert attention and energy from, rather than point attention to, the issues of our times.
Do I mean only those who disagree with me and my positions? Absolutely not. I am far more ruthless in my critiques of those favoring my own positions than those opposed unless those opposed are also not serious or are pursuing objectives that are fundamentally evil–like fascism, racism, national chauvinism, jingoism, exclusivism, triumphalism, exceptionalism, imperialism, sexism, LGBT-phobia, greed,…
Why? Because first of all I have been wrong on many issues and will be again. I am a work in process always. Secondly I am serious about what I believe in and want to advance the causes I believe in, and those who are poor spokespersons for any cause, good or bad, if easily impeached, for whatever reason, compromise and set back the causes themselves. The oldest trick in the book is to try to impeach the message with slander, libel or even exposing the vulnerabilities of the messenger.
But I also want to give feedback and not censor ideas but to take on all ideas with solid evidence, reasoning, sourcing, methodology and critical thinking. So What I am about to do with this first response, is to respond to a reader very critical of my presentations on the so-called Dalai Lama Western version, but I will delete the name and promotional information that is contained in this rather vitriolic and hostile response, as I have no obligation to promote websites that would never dare allow me on theirs for open debate.
I am guided by several constructs presented by Karl Marx. On the inscription on his grave at Highgate cemetary in London, is from his 11th Thesis on Feuerbach: ”
“The Philosophers have only interpreted the world in various ways; the point, however, is to change it.”
This means that not only is the purpose of knowledge its application, but also, application through praxis, struggle, experimentation and sensory awareness is the fundamental basis, test and authority of theory and knowledge, and, this also begs the question: knowledge for whom, in service of what cause and what real world forces?
A great freedom fighter Steve Biko, martyred by murder in custody by the Apartheid fascist regime in South Africa noted: “A person who stands for nothing will go for anything.” and “The most powerful weapon in the hand of the oppressor is the conquered mind of the oppressed.”
My second inspiration from Karl Marx comes from a letter to Arnold Ruge in 1843 when Marx was being asked about being more “prophetic” and laying out a program for what socialism would look like in the future. Marx responded:
If the construction of the future, and its completion for all time is not our task, all the more certain is what we must accomplish in the present. I mean, the ruthless criticism of everything that exists; the criticism being ruthless in the sense that it does not fear its own results and it does not fear conflict with the powers that be.”
That means not only is intellectual honesty critical to critical and scientific thinking, but it takes courage, but it may appear paradoxical, and it is in some ways, but the more biased and passionate one is for a given cause, the more objective and dispassionate one must be to advance it. This is why claims of being “unbiased” are nonsense as bias means a preference and only the dead or people in comas, or people very damaged cognitively have no expressed or non-expressed preferences; to be human is to be biased. But biased for what? Biased in service of what and whom?
Reader Number One: Response to article Dalai Lama: CIA Monk
No censorship of the content; this is the total submission minus the name and website of this person:
Reader on the Dalai Lama CIA Monk:
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but opinions based on fictional representation of facts cannot be presented as truth. The Jim Craven Blog about the Dalai Lama is not only ridiculous but factually incorrect. There is a lot of assumptive evidence. Yes the Nazis expedition 1938 came to Tibet and they were welcomed into Tibet but they chose to omit 1938 the war hadn’t begun and the Nazi’s came under a guise of scientific research. They used the same excuse to visit many countries all over world. Just to let you know Dalai Lama was 3 years old at the time. Heinrich Harrer was member of the Nazi Party and came into Tibet to escape being a prisoner in British India. He joined the Nazi party 1938 and then left the same year to climbed nanga parbat was arrested in India in 1939 and escaped into Tibet 1944. he expressed regret about his decision of joining the Nazi party. Miguel Serrano was a Nazi Sympathizer came to India as a Chilean diplomat 1953–62 becoming a personal friend of Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and the 14th Dalai Lama. He published his pro Nazi book in 1978. The Dalai Lama has crossed paths with many diplomats of various countries to voice the need to Tibetan Human Rights. The Dalai Lama met with CIA agents in India to discuss potential of US helping to gain Tibetan Independence. Dalai Lama has never advocated the use of violence against Chinese but the CIA with the help of other Tibetan leaders did form guerrilla army located in Mustang, Nepal. Jim Craven tries to present as if the Dalai Lama made all these decisions by himself because he is secretly aligned with Nazi. I am a Tibetan and not a scholar like some of you claim to be. Some so called scholars claim Tibetans were oppressed by the Dalai Lama before the Chinese invasion and point to all the different criminal punishment carried out under his name. But chose to omit the crimes committed by their countries and governments. Forget to look at the world how it was at the time of the events. Tibet compared to most of the countries in the world was better than many at those times. Yes Tibet was a backward medieval in existence Dalai Lama repeated tried to push for change and development but was resisted by the older establishment. This same establishment helped the CIA build guerrilla army just to let you know my father was part of the resistance. When i was younger i always imagined myself fighting the Chinese army to get Tibetan Independence but now because of Dalai lama’s teaching i understand there is no way of going that route without a lot of people getting hurt. Dalai Lama spoke out against the 2008 protests in Lhasa when a some Chinese were killed since then their have been protests but all of them peaceful with the only ones getting hurt being Tibetans. Yes we chose to resist and will always because over people suffer but will always love our Chinese brothers and sister because we all belong to the same Human Family.
Response to Reader One Jim Craven/Omahkohkiaaiipooyii
First of all, this reader does not address the sources and their information and sources they present on the subject of the Dalai Lama and his real nature, associations and intentions. The reader does not provide one single counter-source with supposed counter-facts in addition to not dealing with the facts presented while distorting others.
I gave some of the sources for what the 1938 Nazi Expedition to Tibet was. It was to attempt to find or rather manufacture supposed ethnological evidence for Nazi racial theories. All five members of the expedition, three of whom became lifelong friends of the Dalai, were hard-core SS and remained all their lives hard-core Nazis and Hitler supporters until their deaths. There is also the National Geographic Special on this expedition available online and I presented portions of it, there is the Nazi propaganda film made in German online that praised the “Lama System” as a model for Nazi society in terms of cruelty, hierarchy, racial purity etc.
The connections of the Dalai Lama with CIA and photos of him with armed terrorists, using young children just as in Africa as child soldiers, the training bases in Colorado and elsewhere training in terrorism are well documented in declassified and leaked documents that I have provided sources for in some of my own work; this is the work of others.
What about his close associations, not at some public events as these types were wanted later convicted, war criminals in some cases like Bruno Beger; open Hitler supporters like Ernst Schaefer and Heinrich Harrer; neo-Nazis like Japanes cult leader Shoko Asahara, neo-Nazi Jorg Haider, Miguel Serrano etc? Why this fondness for hard-core Nazis?
Real devout Buddhists, and I have some in my own family, do not believe in the notion of “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”. They do not form alliances with Nazis, CIA terrorists, parasitic and cruel aristocrats, and the like. They believe we make our own Karma with each turn of the wheel, that it is wrong to kill any sentient creature even to eat as each has its place in the order of things; that this plane is an illusion of which birth, life, death, rebirth, poverty, old age, sickness, cruelty are part of the order of things that secular struggles cannot cure; we have only our responses to these things. Real Buddhists do not molest children, take wives and daughters in lieu of taxes, engage in summary murder and cruelty, all of which and a lot more was the “order of things under the old regime prior to Liberation. The old Tibet this reader would not likely want to live under even as an apologist for that regime from which millions welcomed liberation in 1949.
Finally as this person’s response to the column deserves no more time as it has little substance to deal with, but on the subject of genocide, if this reader or others want to find out some more on the subject, and where it is going on right now, right here, under the noses of all those concerned about a supposed Tibet they often cannot find on a map. because it is so far away and supposed “compassion” is so easy when it is so far away,
please go to some of my work on the subject of genocide (about which I have lectured in China at Tsinghua University, Chinese Academy of social Sciences and Yunnan University as well as the Minzu (Minorities) University in Beijing, please go to the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at my old alma mater University of Minnesota:
Please see other essays on this blog for further documentation. Also notice that I used no invective or ad hominem against this reader in my responses.
The papers that I have presented in China are on the blog and I am completely open about my teaching and scholarship in China. Never once was I censored in any way and I have spoken with no notes for hours and taught a graduate class on critiques of Neoclassical Economics at Tsinghua and was never censored once and there was no pre-clearance as to what I would say on subjects in Ethnology, genocide, international law as well as Economics.
